Plymouth has established itself as the UK’s national centre for marine autonomy, thanks to its world-class research institutions, strategic coastal location, and strong partnerships between academia, industry, and government. The city’s growth in this sector has been driven by innovation in autonomous marine technology, supported by several local businesses including MarineAI, MSubs and ZeroUSV.

MSubs and MarineAI are proud to be part of this exciting transformation; operating for over two decades in Plymouth, they have played an active role in advancing marine autonomy while keeping talent within the city. Working closely with the University of Plymouth through internships, research collaborations, and direct recruitment not only strengthens the local economy but also builds a sustainable future for marine technology in Plymouth.

MarineAI has a close relationship with MSubs, who design and build prototype vessels on which the GuradianAI™ suite is deployed. GuardianAI™ is a sophisticated software system capable of real time decision making, collision avoidance, and navigation using data from radar, GPS, and onboard sensors. Our collaboration demonstrates the potential of autonomous technology in maritime exploration, research, and environmental monitoring.

Both companies played a significant part in the success of the Mayflower Autonomous Ship project, a groundbreaking crewless vessel that completed a transatlantic voyage from Plymouth UK to Plymouth USA.
